The Nintendo DS really needs no introduction. It is a console that is used to allow gaming, movie viewing, music playing, social networking and internet surfing to be done on the move. It fits into a pocket or handbag with ease and is really quite affordable. It is used in conjunction with the R4 and memory cards.

Sony has been a market leader in a number of technological products for years but they have failed to keep up with the competitors in the memory card market. This is because their focus has likely been on the manufacturing of consoles like the Playstation as well as the many other devices like televisions, music players and entertainment systems. The media director for Sony in India said, "The new memory cards range SD/SDHC and microSD/microSDHC will complement Sony's existing Memory Stick line up, satisfying the needs of a broader range of users, and strengthening Sony's position as a full line media supplier." There is little doubt that Sony is taking this move very seriously, and other manufacturers of similar products will be sure to sit up and pay attention too. This release is taking place first in India and then it will make its transition around the world ensuring that Sony becomes a serious competitor in memory card manufacturing and distribution.

R4 Revolution is basically an adaptor that connects the Nintendo DS to flash memory cards. Using it is extremely easy and with this you can unlock a lot of potential for your hand held console.

Nintendo is quite apprehensive about R4 Revolution because they fear that through its use, their users can easily do video game piracy. Since the price of R4 Revolution is cheaper than normal DS game, so the fear of video gaming piracy increases. Nintendo fears, that instead of buying DS games, their customer might just buy the R4 Revolution and get access to as many games as possible.

Over the years video gaming piracy has increased. Normal pc games are very easy to copy from one system to another. Even console based games which come on dvd's are easy to copy if the dvd's have a writable format. If you don't have an original dvd then playing these dvd's come become a problem but in some cases the hardware or the console can be altered to play them.

So far Nintendo has been pretty safe from piracy issues. Main reason being that unlike other gaming companies who most of the times use dvd's for their games, Nintendo sells their games on cartridges which are very difficult to copy. But ever since R4 Revolution has hit the market, it allows Nintendo DS to interface with flash memory card and this automatically means that the chances of piracy increase. Although Nintendo is desperately trying to implement more and more anti piracy blocks in their current cartridges, but the possibility is that no matter what Nintendo does to its cartridges, it will only be a matter of time before people find out how to break these security blocks and start piracy again.

Some of the features of R4 Revolution has have not been developed by authentic producers meaning they can be used by anyone. This make R4 revolution very versatile because of the fact that it's users don't have any barriers to use it to playing games, play movies, music or even make telephone calls if connected with a PDA.

Another main advantage of R4 Revolution is that since it acts as a memory flash drive, so it allows its users to store all the games on a single piece of media. If you have a gaming night at your friend's house, they you don't have to take all 20 cartridges of the games that you have, you only need R4 Revolution which will store all these games for you. Because of this it is becoming ever more popular and this is exactly what Nintendo does not want because the more popular R4 Revolution becomes, the less people will pocket out hefty amount to buy the actual DS games.

Although companies today like Nintendo, are apprehensive about the popularity of R4 Revolution only because they fear piracy but they should also look at the positive sides of R4 Revolution. If R4 Revolution has made companies like Nintendo uncomfortable, then they should try to use it somehow for their advantage also.
